Basic Info
Name:blackkirin
Birthdate:1982-03-12
Bio
Character's full name: Taiki
Series: Juuni Kokki
Gender: Male
Age: (in canon) between 12 and 14
Personality: Taiki is a very soft-spoken, shy, and sensitive boy who always tried to behave and fit it with the family that raised him, but often without good results. When he was with his human family Taiki spent most of his time studying for school and doing chores around the house. He didn't speak with others much though he didn't go out of his way to avoid doing so, it was more because he felt awkward and out of place. He never lied about anything because he'd been told it was one of the worst things for him to do, even if nobody believed him or the truth got him into even more trouble.
When he was taken back by the sages on Mount Ho he was freed from the social restrictions and expectations he'd been struggling to meet and was finally able to begin acting like a normal child. He strives to make others around him happy weather it's his parents, his teachers, or the sages and gets rather depressed when he can't live up to their expectations.
He is kind to everyone though he is shy with strangers at first and very timid and easily intimidated. When Taiki is told about what he really is and what his fate is supposed to be Taiki was overwhelmed and tried to avoid thinking about it as much as possible though he knew subconsciously that he'd eventually have to leave the monastery and the safety and freedom he had there. Facing his destiny scared him like nothing else on earth.
As a kirin, Taiki is by nature very forgiving and gentle and abhors violence. It seemed at first that he was meek and weak-willed, but eventually Taiki shows that he is actually very powerful and willful but just never had a reason to show that side of himself until forced to protect another person's life. Only when protecting another person does his full power and will show through.
Fairy tale/myth/legend: Birth of the Throneless King
Role: Kirin
Kingdoms territory of origin: Eastern kingdoms

Adaptation:
Taiki was created by the heavens as a kirin, a mystical creature with the essence of purity and harmony, and was supposed to be placed in a temple where only women sages were allowed to
enter so that they could raise him. However, there was a prophesy before his birth declaring that the black kirin would only bow to the Throneless King, a person who bring great wisdom and peace to the world. For many years people waited for the appearance of the legendary black kirin, hoping to be granted such power and control over the world. Because of this prophesy though the sages of the temple closed off the grounds to any and all visitors whenever a kirin appeared in order to protect both themselves and the new kirin from potential threat. It was a very important task to raise them in seclusion so that those with corrupt ambitions wouldn't foolishly try to harm or coerce a kirin into using its power for them. The sages all looked forward to receiving the black kirin and raising him to fulfilling such an important destiny since it would mean that there was finally a person who could actually bring an end to the numerous conflicts in the lands around them. Or so the prophesy was interpreted...
(In Juuni Kokki, the rare black kirins are supposed to be auspicious signs and very welcomed. They're born from the fruit of a tree and raised by priestesses on the top of a mountain covered in mazes, which is where I got that part from. Since a kirin chooses the new ruler of its country by bowing and swearing fealty they really can't bow to anyone else, Taiki was tricked into trying and he tried so hard he was drenched in sweat and nearly passed out from the effort.)
Taiki, however, was swept away during a storm during his transition from the heavens to the temple gardens and was found by a couple in a far away village and for twelve years
he was raised as their son. During this time Taiki had no idea that he was a kirin and thought he was human. His reserved and quiet nature was looked down on by those around
him and caused conflict between his parents and grandmother no matter how hard he tried to fit in. Unknown to Taiki this was actually started when he first met his adopted
grandmother while he was still very young and swatted her hand when she touched his forehead. His younger brother often used this to his advantage and soon became his grandmother's favorite.
When Taiki was twelve years old he was sent into the garden at night as punishment. Another kirin spotted his aura and called the sages who had been looking for Taiki and the
sages spirited him back to the secluded temple without a word to anyone.
(This is mostly Taiki's cannon back-story here but quite important to his characterization, and the reason I'm applying for him rather than Enki. Since Taiki was raised as a normal boy in a family where he constantly felt like he was the cause of most of the problems and tension, as well as being constantly blamed for things he did or didn't do, obviously he has self-confidence and status issues. The mentality of 'no matter what I do, I'll fail and be a disappointment'. He also has no idea what it means to be a kirin, so all the normal abilities and disadvantages are really new to him.)
Taiki was then told of his true destiny as the prophesied black kirin and then he finally understood why he never was able to fit in with his human family or other children. Because he wasn't human, he was an animal. Taiki was sad at the prospect that he would never be able to return to his normal life, but eventually convinced himself his human family was better off without him.
Taiki was taught more about the world and the fate that awaited him. It was expected that when he fully matured, he would venture out into the world and and fulfill his destiny and bow to the one who would become the greatest king in the known lands. The boy became afraid of his destiny and was convinced that he would never be able to really do such a thing as choosing a king without making the wrong choice. Despite what the kind sages told him about simply following the will of Heaven, Taiki didn't realize that he was totally incapable of bowing to anyone else since he never had before.
All too soon though the sages decided Taiki was mature enough to leave the gates to the outer temple areas open to visitors who came to seek the Kirin's blessing and allow Taiki to seek the Throneless King. Though they never came out and said so since that would place even more pressure on the young kirin, they too wished to see how Taiki's destiny would unfold.
